Music & Worship Arts Academy

Dear Parents,

The MWAA Orchestra started in the 2013-14 school year with 15 students; 14 violins and 1 bass. Last year was our largest enrollment with 29 students.  The original goal in forming the orchestra was to allow homeschool students the opportunity to play alongside one another in an orchestral setting. A secondary goal was to provide an opportunity for students to fellowship, form community and make new friends. I'm very happy to say that in the past 7 years I believe we have accomplished those original goals.

The news I am trying to share is this.  At the end of this 2020 school year, due to my health issues, I will be retiring from teaching orchestra classes and the MWAA groups will no longer meet.  I will continue to offer private lessons and perhaps a student music or worship class from my home in the 2020-21 academic year. I hope you will share this news with your students in person. I would hate for them to hear this news second-hand or via text or email.

So, what does this mean for your students? If your student wants to continue performing with a youth orchestra there are a few options. If you will go to the orchestra website at, I have posted some information about two other youth orchestras in our area as well as a homeschool group in north Houston.

As we approach the fall semester, I will be in touch with high school students about the possibility of a praise/worship band class that I will hold at my house.  This will depend on student interest, instrumentation and a few other factors so we’ll see in the fall if this is a possibility.  While I plan to offer private lessons for elementary and junior high aged students, we will not have any classes for these students next year.

I know several of you have borrowed orchestra music stands.  I will be glad to sell those for half price ($20), or you can return them to me after the quarantine.  I also have a few more stands available for sale so let me know if you would like to purchase one.

I can’t begin to thank you all enough for the support you have shown for the MWAA Orchestra over the past 7 years. You have been a tremendous blessing to me and my family.

I am certainly available if you have questions.
